The Estate grown Pinot Noir used in the Phillip Leonard wine come from three specific clones blended together for finesse and balance. They are 777, 667 and the infamous La Tache clone. The soils are multi-layered, mineral-layered clays that were once San Pablo Bay sea beds.
The clusters of grapes are hand sorted and go through fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. After fermentation the juice is gravity fed with minimal handling. MLF takes place in the barrels.
Bramble, dark and red cherries, cut hay, anise, and faint chocolate come through on the nose. A burst of cranberry comes through on the palate with nice acidity and a long finish. Pair with roasted duck or gamey meats like venison or lamb.
