🇫🇷Chateau Tronquoy Lalande, St. Estephe, 2008
This Chateau was originally founded in the 18th century in the heart of the Saint-Estephe appellation. It was built for Francois Tronquoy, the estate’s first owner, by Victor Louis, the architect of the Grand Theatre in Bordeaux. The estate went through several different owners until 1968, when it was bought by Jean Texier and his wife Arlette Casteja-Texier, who would operate the estate for the next forty years. In 2006 two wealthy wine estate investors, Martin and Olivier Bouygues discovered this little gem, historically reputed for having one of the finest terroirs in Saint-Estephe. They were consulted to buy this property, so they did and embarked on a large-scale modernization program which culminated in 2010 with the construction of a vast barrel hall and a new vat house equipped with a vertical press and 22 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. This wine is medium plus to full bodied with aroma and flavor characteristics notes of earth, stone, forest floor, leather, blackberry, black cherry, and dried plum. This wine is finally peaking after ten years of maturation. Produced from a blend of 50% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot. Pair this wine next time you’re gilling burgers.
