🇦🇷 Bodega Norton, “Gernot Langes”, 2008

🍷Bodega Norton was founded in 1895 by Edward James Palmer Norton, who was visiting Argentina as an engineer commissioned to help build a railway across the Andes.  Norton fell in love with Mendoza and founded his own vineyard in Lujan de Cuyo and planted imported French grape varietals. In 1919, the first winery was built which still stands today and in 1951 Norton’s fine wines receive national recognition and acclaim. Gernot Langes-Swarovski an Austrian business man purchases Bodega Norton in 1989 to develop fine Argentinan wines and selects Bodega Norton because it is the region´s only traditional winery surrounded by its own vines. As Bodega Norton´s icon wine, “Gernot Langes” was named after its owner. This wine is made from a careful selection of the finest Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes, picked from Bodega Norton’s oldest vineyards. The unique blend is aged in French oak barrels for 16 months and then in bottle for another 14 months. Each of Gernot Langes’s 4,988 numbered bottles expresses the spirit and vision of the winery. This wine is deep dark ruby in color. The nose is packed with intense red and dark fruit, baking spices, and earth aromas. The palate is dominated with complex dark fruit such as blackberry and blackcurrant and some hints of cocoa. The tannins are perfectly integrated and feel smooth. The finish for this wine feels extremely long. The wine after ten years still has a high amount of acidity and feels fresh showing that it can still be aged for years to come. 🍴Pair with bone-in Bife Ancho.
